Sit Macy Sit

As puppies do, Macy is gets noticeably bigger every day. So far she has been a great puppy with very few problems; accept for the unfortunate digestive issues she had after secretly eating a big bowl of cat food. Austin studies his dog book every day to make sure we don't do anything wrong (he must have missed the chapter on the effects of cat food on small puppies). It took almost no time at all for Austin, with a little help from his book, to teach Macy how to sit. As you can see from the pictures Austin, and Josh, are very good teachers. Now, according to "the book", Austin says Macy should be ready to learn the 'stay' command...... 'stay' tuned.

High School Summer Baseball

I tried out for the High School Summer League team for the new Syracuse high school built about a mile away from where I live. A few of my teammates from our competition team made it along with me and we are all on the same team out of three that were made.

The pictures below are from one of the home games we played, this one was against Hillcrest High School. I played behind the plate that game and batted seventh. The picture of me batting was a base hit into left center. The picture of me catching was taken getting ready to make the third out in the inning on a base runner running home and he was huge. I bet I would have flown back if he would have tried to ram me instead of slide under me. Either way, I made the tag and got the third out of the inning.

She is Finally Named

It took us a while but we finally all agreed on a name for the new pup. Her name is Macy! Austin is staying with his Grandma and Grandpa in St George so we had to call for his approval. She is starting to recognize her name. She has grown quite a bit, too! We will post some pictures when she gets a bit bigger. She starts puppy school soon. That should be a blast! - Aimee

What's my name?

We have added a new member to our family but are struggling with giving HER a name. We bought her a couple of weeks ago and took the kids to see her. Since then we have not been able to agree on a name for her. Now that she is old enough and school is out she is home with us and is desperate need of a name. Please leave a comment with any suggestions.

Adams Canyon

For our Tuesday night activity with the Varsity Scouts we decided to go for a short hike to the water fall up Adams canyon. It was a 2.5 mile hike straight up the canyon. With the warmer weather we've been having lately the melting snow has made the waterfall especially big, and cold. The picture of Austin was taken just as the trail came out of the canyon and we could Layton, the Great Salt Lake, and Antelope Island.

Stitch Watch 2008!

I went to get my stitches out last Friday. Only two of them were ready to come out. The doctor left six of them in for the weekend. I went again yesterday to get the rest out. The surface skin is still not healed. It looks like it is just going to fall off like a scab but underneath it is healing nicely. Luckily there was no tendon or nerve damage. It will just be a nasty scar. A definite reminder to always cut with a sharp blade!

A Stitch in Time...

By Aimee

I learned to sew at an early age. I made all my homecoming/prom dresses and even my own wedding dress. So when Josh's school needed people to sew a simple straight seem for a project, I knew I could get in some easy volunteer hours. The 6th grade is learning the recorder in music and with each level they pass they get a different colored belt, like in Karate. I was given the task of cutting out and putting together the yellow and orange belts. On Tuesday morning I got out my cutting mat, straight edge and rotary cutter hoping to get lots done. After an hour or so I noticed the blade on my cutter was pretty dull. I hadn't changed it in a while. The thought came to me, "I should probably go get a new blade for this before I have a mishap." But I was on a roll. I was about half way through all the cutting and I just wanted to get it done. I didn't listen to that voice. So, just as feared, the blade was too dull to stay on the fabric and ended up making it's way up the straight edge and across my finger. I immediately dropped the cutter and grabbed my poor little finger, putting pressure on it so I wouldn't bleed all over the kitchen. I wasn't sure how bad it really was, I just knew it needed more than a band-aid. I somehow opened the front door and walked across the street to get help from my friend, Becky. She helped me dial the doctor's office to let them know I was coming and then Jim to let him know how he would be spending his lunch hour! We got all checked in and back to the suture room. I knew I needed stitches but didn't know haw badly until the nurse looked at it and made a face! She told us she hadn't seen a cut like that in a while. She got the doctor and they got to work. 5 shots (one of them tetanus) and 8 stitches later I was bandaged up and sent home with the instructions to keep it dry for at least 48 hours and to take it easy. Needless to say, the easy project I thought I would have done in two days is still sitting in the state I left it in on that fateful Tuesday afternoon. The only consolation I have is that the Mom in charge of the project knows exactly how I feel. She almost cut the end of her thumb off a few months ago with the same type of cutting tool!
